We thought this would be a fun little every day post and way for us to learn something new.  Information has not been verified for each date but we feel credible enough to post it on our blog.  Sources are gleaned from all over the net.

295 | 8th recorded perihelion passage of Halley’s Comet.

1770 | Captain Cook arrives in New South Wales.

1777 | New York adopts new constitution as new independent state.

1836 | Territory of Wisconsin established.

1837 | Massachussetts creates a State Board of Education.

1872  | San Francisco Bar Association organized.

1888  | 246 reportedly killed by hail in Moradabad, India.

1906| San Francisco Earthquake [on 4/18] creating multiple fires taking Firefighters 2 days to bring the fire under control & stopped from spreading. 700 people died. 200,000 were homeless.

1914 | 33 killed by soldiers during mine strike in Colorado.

1920 | Tornadoes kill 219 in Alabama and Mississippi.

1926 | First radio facsimilie transmission sent across the Atlantic.

1929 | World Tallest building, Bank of Manhattan is announced to be built in New York. 63 floors, to be exactly.

1940 | First electron microscope demonstrated [RCA] in Phily, PA.

1944 | The NFL legalizes coaching from the bench.

1946 | First baseball broadcast in Chicago. [Cards v Cubs]

1948 | NYC hikes subway fares from 5 cents to 10 cents.

1960 | Brasilia was inaugurated as Brazil’s newest Captital.

1961 | American Harold Graham makes first rocket belt fly.

1962 | NASA Civilian pilot, Neil Armstrong takes X-15 to 63,250 m.

1967 | A series of 52 tornadoes killed 58 people. The states hit included northern Illinois, Missouri, Iowa and lower Michigan. – US Surveyor 3 lands on moon.

1970 | In Manila, Philippines, a Philippine Air Lines crashed after an explosion in the rear lavatory caused the tail section to break off. All 36 people on board were killed.

1972 | Apollo 16 makes 5th manned landing on the moon.

1973 | In Patabangan, Philippines, 33 people died when a Philippine Air Lines crashed after a bomb exploded on board.

1995 | Timothy McVeight was arrested for the #OKCBombing.

1999 | Columbine High School Shooting. 13 killed. 24 wounded.  2 suspected committed suicide.

2003 | In Bangladesh, a river ferry sank during a tropical storm killing at least 48 people.

2005 | New bankruptcy law is signed by President George W Bush to make it harder for those to wipe clean their financial situations.

2008 | Benedict XVI visits Ground Zero greeting survivors, Police Officers, Firefighters and some relatives of the 2749 innocents who died there and praying with them.

2010 | The Deepwater Horizon, the semi-submersible offshore oil drilling rig explodes and the platform is engulfed by fire. It was located 40 miles SE of the Louisiana coast in the Gulf of Mexico.  11 workers killed. 17 others.  A gusher allowed 200 milion gallons of crude oil directly into the ocean.

2011 | Japan enforces legally penalty for those entering the 12-mile evacuation zone around the Fukushima nuclear plant. 30 families were inside the zone prior to the ban.

2012 | Mexico’s Popocatepi Volcano began errupting ash and spewing rocks.  It is known as the 2nd highest peak in the Country.  The National Disaster Prevention Center raised an alert around the volcano.  It last errupted in 2000.

2013  | IRAQ holds its 1st Election since the US Troops last left the country in 2011.

2014 | Iranian President calls for Women’s Rights and explains the importance of them.
