NW Fires Burning up Washington and Oregon | Tuesday, Aug 2, 2016

Well, we thought it was a great idea to separate the wildfires individually but they seem to be popping up everywhere and now we are back to a single Northwest post with multiple listings for Washington and Oregon once again.

Thank you for hanging in there with us as we continue to work to organize all of these crazy fast-moving fires.


Antilon Lake – 10 miles NW of Chelan, Washington – 540 acres. 70% contained. Timber, brush and grass fire fuels.  Active fire behavior with smoldering.  131 personnel. 4 crews. 10 engines. 1 helicopter. $300,000 CTD. State Lands. Command changed back over to local Fire Agency.  ICP: Manson HS.

Black Rock Road – Washington – 16,025 acres. 100% contained. 219 personnel. 1 crew. 45 engines. 5 structures lost. $620,000 CTD.

Blue Top Fire – Blue Pool Tamolitch Falls Rec area, Oregon – Burning along the McKenzie Rivers Trail along drainage with sheer cliffs, steep rock terrain.  Fire started on 7/27/2016.  29 acres. 7% contained.  Fire is creeping with incidental spotting.  Southern Cascade Type 3 IMT. 115 personnel.

Bybee Creek – 18 miles NE of Prospect / Crater Lake National Park – 720 acres. 10% contained. Timber.  Active fire behavior with group torching, uphill runs and short-range spotting.  279 personnel. 8 crews. 7 engines. 5 helicopters.3 water tenders. 2 fixed wing aircraft. 37 overhead team. $956,000 CTD.

KeWA Fire – Ferry County / Colville Nation, Washington – Start 8/2/2016. Type 2 ordered.

North Touchet Fire – 25 miles NE of Walla Walla, Washington – 525 acres. 85% contained. Timber and brush are fire fuels. Active Fire behavior with smoldering and still threatened residences.  169 personnel. 3 crews. 37 engines. $450,000 CTD.

Paulina Fire – 7 miles NE of Lapine, Oregon – Deschutes NF.  Near Forest  Service Rd 9735.  Start 8/2/2016 @ 1537 hours. Unknown cause.  50 acres. 10% contained. Level 1 Evacuations at campgrounds @ Paulina Lake, McKay Crossing, Ogden Group and Prairie.

Rail Fire- 10 miles SW of Unity, Oregon – Wallowa – Wallowa NF. IMT2. 900 acres. 0% contained.  Timber, heavy logging slash are the fire fuels.  Moderate fire behavior with group torching, long and short-range spotting.  Threats to structures.  Evacuations in effect.  166 personnel.  6 crews.  4 engines. $250,000 CTD.  Forest Service lands.

Range 12 Fire – Near Sunnyside, Washington – 176,600 acres burning with a 60% containment. 419 personnel.  9 crews. 25 engines. 3 helicopters. Fire started on the Yakima Training Center.  There is an unknown cause. Fire crews are trying to keep the fire away from the Hanford Reactors which has been difficult due to the winds and rapid ROS.

Firefighters were able to put in place a fire line around the 117-mile fire perimeter.  419 personnel 1- type 1 hand crew, 7 type-2 handcrews, 2 camp crews, 2 helicopters, 34 engines and 4 dozers.  Resources determined as excess to the suppression efforts will be released to return home or made available for reassignment to other fires.

Snake River Fire – Near Colton and 12 miles South of Pullman in Whitman County, Washington.  11,000 acres and growing rapidly.  0% containment.  Fire has jumped Snake River.  State Fire Mobe has been requested & approved. Structures threatened.  Evacuations in effect.  Fire is in the Wawawai Canyons.

South Gap Fire – WA Fire Marshal’s Office/Near Prosser, Washington.  5,000 acres. 10% contained. Burning in brush, tall grass. Min Fire behavior.  Homes still being threatened.  103 personnel.  24 engines. 2 structures lost.  $150,000 CTD. State lands.

SR 17 Fire / Road 10 Fire – SR 17 NB @ Milepost 60, Between Moses Lake and Ephrata, Washington – Started 8/2/2016 @ 1500 hours. 7 miles North of Moses Lake. Burning in heavy sage and grass. Wind-driven N-NE Winds up to 24 mph (earlier today).  Fire jumped SR 17 and Rd 10.  Sources were reporting 4-5,000 acres with 0% containment.  SR 17 closed in both directions @ Mp 60-63. Detours in effect. Level 3 evacuations were in place for many communities. 0 injuries reported. Grant County Sheriff Posse were available to help residents with evacuation of large animals. PIOs/ICP is at the Big Bend Community College. Red Cross shelter opened at the Grant County Fairgrounds @ 3953 airway Dr NE, Moses Lake.  Human shelter temporary shelter was at the Grant County International Airport Terminal.

Weigh Station Fire – 13 miles SE of Pendleton, Oregon.  668 acres. 35% contained. Min fire behavior.  Still threatening structures. Timber/Brush are fire fuels.  303 personnel. 11 crews. 21 engines. 2 structures lost.  $698,000 CTD.
