TRES PIDERAS, NEW MEXICO
A wildfire was sparked by lightning on May 15, 2017, on the Carson National Forest, about 4 miles SW of Tres Piedras and 2 miles N of Las Tablas and located near Hondito Canyon adjacent to Forest Road 222. New Mexico.
U.S. Forest Service – Carson National Forest currently has been assigned to this incident.
About 7,020 acres of timber and brush have been destroyed. The change in acreage is due to more accurate GPS mapping readings. Fire behavior is minimal. Firefighters will continue to monitor and secure the perimeter. There is a 30% containment status and currently holding.
Smoke may still be seen from Tres Piedras, Taos, Questa, U.S. Highways 64 and 285. For smoke-sensitive individuals, it is recommended that you stay indoors and close all doors and vents to keep smoke out.
