Delta Lake Fire

Dense fuels make it challenging for crews to put in containment lines on the Delta Lake Fire

Summary

  • Part of the West Zone Complex
  • Located north of Delta Lake
  • About 19 miles east of Ely, Minnesota
  • Burning on private and National Forest System lands
  • Adjacent to Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness
  • Started July 7, 2021
  • Lighting caused

Current Status

  • Burning in dense blowdown
  • Firefighters had to make a line around fire through the fuels
  • Mop-up operations in effect
  • 65 acres
  • 10% containment reached

Resources

  • Managed by the EA Type 2 Silver Team
  • 211 total personnel assigned.
  • 4 engines, 3 crews, 2 copters, 2 excavators.

Closures

  • The entire Kekebabic Trail is closed.
  • The following BWCAW entry points are closed: #56 Kekekabic Trail East, #74 Kekekabic Trail West/Snowbank, #22 Mudro-Restricted Entry Point/No BWCAW entry, 23 Mudro Entry Point.
