The blaze at a one-story duplex at 6139 Auckland Ave. breaks out around 2:20 a.m., according to the LAFD.
A noninjury fire at a duplex in North Hollywood today displaced 14 people and caused more than $100,000 in damage, fire officials said.
The fire at the one-story duplex at 6139 Auckland Ave. broke out around 2:20 a.m., said Los Angeles City Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey. He said it was confined to a recently vacated rear unit that still had someone’s personal belongings in it.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze in about 20 minutes but were forced to turn off the building’s utilities in the process, according to Humphrey. As a result, 10 children and four adults were evacuated and “reluctantly accepted” an offer of temporary accommodation assistance from the American Red Cross, Humphrey said.
The fire caused $110,000 in damages, he said. Its cause was under investigation.
