Firehouse Quilts of Colorado LLC started in Highlands Ranch, Colorado in 2003 and incorporated as a non-profit in 2005, began their program after realizing that local fire departments did not have a quilt program for kids they see on their emergency runs.
Those eligible to receive such quilts are any fire department in the State of Colorado and in some rural areas, Sheriffs and Police Departments are eligible because they may be first responders at incidents such as auto accidents. In 2005, they expanded their quilt donations to children in Battered Women’s shelters then later in 2007, expanding to making twin sizes for mothers.
Other agencies have also been recipients of these great gifts as well such as Action Care Ambulance, Denver Health Medical Center and Douglas County Women’s Crisis Center. What great work they are doing for children!
See them on their website at http://www.FirehouseQuilts.org.
