Sounds like times are really getting tough for one City in Washington State. Reported by the Heraldnews.net wire that as of April 1, 2012 has signed a long-term agreement between the City of Stanwood and the North County Regional Fire Authority. No April Fool’s joke here, but a serious partnership between the two in that a contract had been signed earlier in the month.
Fire and EMS operations will be turned over to the Fire Authority as of April 1, 2012, hiring the City’s exisitng six Firefighters, renting of the City’s only fire station #99 located at 8117 – 267th St N.W., their fire vehicles and equipment. They have five years to decide if they want to purchase the equipment. The contract will be in effect until 2031. This is a $1.2 million year deal for the Fire Authority and saving the City’s many resources and expenses.
The Fire Authority currently serves 22,000 people in a 109-square mile area including Warm Beach, Freeborn and Bryant. It only makes sense since the unions merged in 2011.
Nothing has been officially announced or published on either Fire Authority or City of Stanwood’s websites.
