Volunteer Firefighter

 Riverside Fire & Rescue accepts applicants for positions of Volunteer Firefighter twice a year approximately two months prior to Recruit School. Our application period will be posted on our web page. We also take applications on an ongoing basis for individuals with both firefighting experience, EMT and or Paramedics. When we take applications you will need to include the items listed below in the application must contain section. Failure to complete the application or missing requirements will result in your application not being considered. The position reports to a Lieutenant in the Training Division.

 Riverside Fire & Rescue is located between the Cities of Puyallup and Tacoma. The district is also located along the Puyallup River in the lower Puyallup Valley on the Puyallup Indian Reservation. The department services a population of 3,000 people, within a 6 square mile jurisdiction. This population triples at any given time with the influx of commuters on SR 167 “River Rd”, and the North South rail line carrying people on the Amtrak and Sounder Commuter rail. A budget of $ 435,000 a year allows for two career staff, three part time staff and over forty five volunteers. The department provides fire suppression, vehicle extrication, and EMS (BLS) services from 1 station centrally located in the fire district. On average the district responds to 430 calls for service, the station is staffed 24 hours a day by the programs of career, intern, and volunteer firefighters providing an average response time of 4 minutes 24 hours a day. The district provides services to the citizens with two class (A) fire engines, one Type 2 water tender, one BLS transport ambulance, one Type 6 Brush Engine, and two support vehicles.

 Qualifications:

 18 Years of age at time of application

 Valid Washington State drivers license with proof of insurance

 High School diploma or equivalent at time of application

 Excellent health and ability to perform essential functions

 Some firefighting and EMS experience preferred

The applicant should have demonstrated experience, skills and characteristics which include, but not limited to:

 High level of professionalism, work ethic, a proven decision-maker and visionary.

 Ability to build and maintain effective working and interpersonal relations with the community, other public safety, subordinates, and superiors.

 Ability to create and maintain effective career and volunteer personnel relationships.

 Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing to a diverse audience.

 Proficient in computers and Microsoft Office Products.

 • Your Resume.

• A Riverside Fire & Rescue Application (available on dept. web site).

• A Five Year Drivers Abstract,

• Proof of insurance.

• Proof of successful completion a physical abilities test 2.00 or higher from Exercises Science Center must be included in your packet. Exercise Science Center is located at 1101 Regents Blvd Tacoma WA 98466, (253) 564-6050. Or a CPAT certificate less then six months old.

 Applications must be submitted in person or by mail by 5:00pm June 15, 2012 at Riverside Fire & Rescue, 4114 56th Ave E Puyallup WA 98371. Faxed or emailed applications will not be accepted. Missing or incomplete applications will not be considered.

 A written test is scheduled for Thursday June 21st at 6pm at Riverside Elementary School located at 5515 44th St E Puyallup WA 98371. Applicants should plan on attending the written test, notices will not be sent out. A list of approved applicants will be at the written test. You must have a minimum of 70% to move forward following the written test in the process.

 Oral Interviews for the top candidates will be June 27th and 28th at Riverside Fire & Rescue 4114 56th Ave E Puyallup WA 98371. This date cannot be changed, so think positive. Leave these important dates open so you can participate in the finals.

 The top twelve candidates following the oral board will have Chiefs interviews July 9-10th here at Riverside Fire & Rescue.

 The top four candidates following the Chiefs Interview will be offered recruit positions with Riverside Fire & Rescue. The candidates will start pre-academy training in August and then go to recruit school starting in September of 2012.
