April 3—Seattle Firefighters extinguish a garage fire on Capitol Hill in 3 minutes. The 911 call came in at 11:27 p.m. to a home located on 1100 block of East Boston Street.

Engine Company 22 arrived to find a small amount of smoke coming from a garage of a 3-story home. Firefighters found the smoke coming from a pile of stacked wood with a plastic tarp underneath the wood. The smoke from the smoldering wood drifted inside the home.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames within 3 minutes of arriving. The investigation revealed that embers from the first floor fireplace had dropped from the fireplace cleanout into the garage, landing on the plastic tarp. The embers ignited the tarp and caused fire to smolder in the stacked wood.

Damage estimate was $500 to the structure and no loss to the contents.
