The Handford Fire Department (HFD) Firefighter candidate testing process for 2012 has reopened with expected hires before Spring 2013. HFD is accepting test scores and valid CPAT testing for both Firefighter and Firefighter/Paramedic positions for expected hires in both job classifications. HFD will be conducting interviews with the top 30 candidates with regard to overall combined score in the mid-August timeframe. Independent lists for each classification will be created; candidates may appear on both classification lists.
Prospective Candidates must have a valid NTN CPAT of file to proceed to the interview process. Candidates lacking a valid NTN CPAT on file will not be scheduled to move forward in the hiring process. All candidates that are called to the interview process for Firefighter and Firefighter/Paramedic and presently have IFSAC Firefighter I & II and Haz-Mat Ops. and Haz-Mat Awareness and are able to produce supporting documentation will be given preference in final scoring.
Paramedic candidates must, as a condition of initial hire, presently possess Washington State EMT-P and National Registry Paramedic certification before interviews are scheduled. Paramedics must, as a condition of employment, obtain necessary credentials to practice in Benton County, Washington within one year of hire.
All candidates must meet predetermined medical/physical fitness requirements.

Schooling Prior and Post Hiring:
No post-secondary schooling required prior to hiring. Post-hiring requirements include successful completion of the Washington State Firefighter Recruit Academy and successful completion of the Washington State Labor and Industries Firefighter Apprenticeship Program.

Must meet predetermined medical/physical fitness requirements.

Selection Process Criteria:
As the need arises to develop an eligibility list, the Hanford Fire Department will schedule the top 30 candidates, in overall combined score, to move onto the interview process. Candidates are encouraged to carefully review their test score information to ensure accuracy.
