Chief Murray Gordon, Fire Chief of the Everett Fire Department, was elected President of the Washington Fire Chiefs at the annual Expo and Conference held in Yakima, WA from June 21 to 25, 2012. He will serve a two-year term as President and continue to serve as Immediate Past President when his elected term is complete. The Washington Fire Chiefs is a non-profit association that provides service, education and leadership on public safety issues.
“I look forward to working with the WFC Board of Directors to build relationships and partnerships, improve communications and to –provide access to professional and leadership skills development,” Chief Gordon said. “The leadership of the Washington Fire Chiefs is comprised of vibrant, energetic, dedicated and committed professionals. Together we will continue to assist communities and chief fire department officers to operate credible services and conduct risk assessments as we make our way through these new economic times.”
Chief Gordon was hired by the Everett Fire Department in 1977. He has served in several positions at the department including: firefighter, paramedic, captain, deputy chief of emergency medical services, and assistant chief. In 2001 he was appointed as Everett Fire Department chief.
Chief Gordon is a member of several professional fire service organizations and associations. He currently serves as chair of the Snohomish County CAD Oversight Council and is a past president of the Snohomish County Fire Chief’s Association. He also served as the chairperson for the SNOPAC Communications Center Board of Directors from 2002-2007.
He attended Everett Community College and received his paramedic training at the University of Washington. He has received extensive training at the National Fire Academy, taking multiple executive level courses.
Executive Director of the Washington Fire Chiefs Mike Brown said he is looking forward to his work with Chief Gordon as the WFC President: “He will work hard to develop coalitions and bring his personal commitment to the Association as we work for the people of the State of Washington.”
