SEATTLE – Hundreds of guests were evacuated from a Lake Union hotel on Saturday after a fire broke out in one of the guest rooms, fire officials said.

Firefighters responded to the scene, the Courtyard by Marriott hotel at 925 Westlake Ave. N., at about noon after receiving reports of a fire on the building’s seventh floor.

The fire department ordered all rooms on the seventh floor evacuated, but the hotel management decided to evacuate everyone in the building – some 250 to 300 people.

The fire, in an unoccupied room, was quickly extinguished. It burned a carpet, walls and drapes in the room where it broke out.

Fire officials said the blaze appeared to be accidental, started by someone leaving a cell phone charger plugged in.

Damage was estimated at about $2,000.
