September 26, 2012—Seattle Firefighters rescued a dog and it’s owner from a burning apartment in Belltown this morning.

 The first 911 call came in at 10:54 a.m. reporting a fire alarm coming the building located in the 2300 block of 3rd Avenue. Dozens of residents evacuated the building.

When firefighters arrived they discovered heavy smoke in a 2nd-floor unit. Inside the unit firefighters found the occupant searching for his dog. Crews pulled the man from the burning apartment.

Inside the heavy smoke-filled apartment, crews found the dog on a couch. A firefighter scooped up the dog, a 3 ½ year-old Boxer named Daisy, and ran her out of the apartment to the arms of her owner.

The owner of the dog was evaluated by Medics but did not need treatment or transport to a hospital.

It took crews 10 minutes to completely extinguish the flames. The fire started on the stove and extended up into the cabinets of the unit.

A Seattle Fire Investigator determined combustibles left on top of the stove ignited causing the fire. The fire is being called an accidental fire. The Damage estimate is $10,000 to the structure and $30,000 to the contents.

At 12:15 p.m., residents were allowed back in to all floors except the second floor which suffered water damage. The building was turned over to the property owners.
