The Spokane Valley Fire Department serves the cities of Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake, Millwood, and parts of unincorporated Spokane County. The department’s service area covers 75 square miles and has a combined population of 125,000. SVFD has 10 stations, a training center with a burn tower, and a maintenance facility, and employs 177 personnel. The 2012 annual budget is $31,734,674. Reporting to the Board of Fire Commissioners, the Fire Chief is responsible for the management and administration of all of the department’s fire and emergency medical services and resources. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, fire science, business administration or a related field is required; a master’s degree is desired. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of seven to ten years of experience in a comparable or larger agency with extensive experience in a senior management role, such as fire chief, deputy/assistant fire chief, operations chief, or battalion chief.
