Northshore Fire Department is currently hiring for one (1) Firefighter/EMT position. A valid CPAT is required for this position. All testing must be completed by close of business day December 15, 2012.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS & DEADLINES:

STEP 1:
Applicants must have completed the standard test at National Testing Network and have passed a current valid CPAT (testing also available at NTN) by close of business day 12/15/2012. If not already selected, applicants will need to go onto their candidate profile and select Northshore Fire Department by position posting closing date 12/15/12.

STEP 2:
Applicants will be selected based on NTN scores and invited by the Department to complete an application by 01/02/13. Applicants that are not selected to continue in the hiring process will not be contacted.

STEP 3:
Completed applications will be reviewed and selected candidates will be invited to an Oral Board Interview scheduled during the week of 01/14/13.

Salary Information: $4,766.41/month (2013 rate, 70% of top firefighter pay)

Department Information:
The Northshore Fire Department provides emergency services to the communities of Kenmore and Lake Forest Park with a population of approximately 35,000. Acting Fire Chief Jim Torpin leads the department of 47 employees operating from two fully staffed fire stations with shift personnel working a four (4) platoon schedule. The Department not only responds to fire, EMS and rescue emergencies, but also provides a full range of non-emergency services including Fire Marshal/fire prevention, public education and professional training. All Northshore firefighters are Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) and 12 are Technical Rescue Technicians (TRT). Each shift has a minimum of three (3) TRT firefighters for 24/7 coverage for the District.

Minimum Staffing
Station 51: Battalion Chief, Lieutenant, 5 Firefighters
Station 57: Lieutenant, 2 Firefighters
When in recruit status, firefighters are expected to successfully complete a comprehensive accredited firefighter training academy leading to certification as a Washington State Certified “Fire Fighter I”. Firefighters are expected to perform the full range of fire suppression, safety and prevention duties on an in-service training basis and to learn journey level skills in all areas of work assigned.

Job Description:
This position’s primarily duties includes controlling, extinguishing and preventing fires and maintaining firefighting equipment, apparatus and quarters. Work also involves responding to and dealing with man-made and natural disasters that pose a threat to public safety. Firefighters are responsible to protect life and property through fire fighting activities, first aid and fire equipment operations.

The ideal candidate will be a leader, able to use his or her interpersonal skills to show initiative, inspire and motivate others; be adaptable, dependable, and accountable in everyday work and interactions; possess excellent problem solving skills, strong communication skills, and demonstrate a high level of customer service. The successful candidate will demonstrate positive, consistent behavior, maintain complete response readiness at all times, and support the safety of one another in a team.
 

Job Requirements


  • Age 18 years or older
  • Education High School Grad/GED
  • Additional Requirement :
    US Citizen: or Eligible to work in the United States
    Valid WASHINGTON State Driver’s License: Must possess a current, valid Washington State driver’s license upon employment and maintain insurability requirements with the Department’s liability insurance carrier.
    Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes
    Physical and Medical Requirements:
    Ability to meet the medical and physical requirements as specified in the Washington State Administrative Code, WAC 296 305, Safety Standards for Firefighters and WAC 296-842, Respirators.
    Washington State EMT Certification:
    Must achieve prior to employment and maintain certified status as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
    Special Requirements:
    Successful completion of a pre-employment background check, psychological examination, medical examination and drug screen test.
