Portland, Oregon – Around 1530 Hours PST this afternoon, 9-1-1 operators began receiving flooded calls reporting a single gunman had entered Clackamas Town Center mall openly firing upon shoppers.
News media reported two people are dead. Several others have been seriously injured.
The police are on scene and are continuing their investigation despite the gunman killing himself.
The mall will remain closed on Wednesday and Thursday, 12/12/12 and 12/13/12 and as long as police are on scene investigating.
Several media sources reported from earlier witness accounts that the lone gunman was dressed in full body armor and began shooting people randomly. Police responded and before they could take the suspect into custody, he had already killed himself. Police fired no shots inside the busy mall.
The Mall released this statement:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who was in the mall at the time of this unfortunate incident. We are grateful to have the stellar support of all the law enforcement agencies and rescue personnel in the area, who immediately took action and continue to ensure the safety of everyone remaining at the property. The mall will remain closed tomorrow, Wednesday, December 12.”
More details as they come to light will be updated.
