At approximately 1:10 this morning, December 24, 2012 there was a shooting in the Munch Bar, a popular nightclub at Bellevue Square mall, located at 505 Bellevue Way. The shooting left one person dead, a 30-year-old Seattle man. A second man was injured and is being treated for a gunshot wound at Overlake Medical Center.
Bellevue Police officers were on scene immediately, assisted by officers from surrounding agencies. There were reportedly more than 600 patrons at the bar at the time of the shooting. Apparently there was some type of altercation that led up to the shooting. The situation was chaotic inside the bar while police officers tried to secure the scene. Witnesses gave conflicting descriptions of the shooter, and detectives are working to identify the suspect or suspects.
The shooting appears to be an isolated incident and no officers were involved in the shooting. The impact on business at the mall is minimal. Bellevue Square and the surrounding streets are open. Only the area around the bar is closed while the investigation continues.
