People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to Walnuts (a type of tree nut) run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. This product has not been produced since November 26, 2012.

The product is packed in a clear clam-shell type package with a label which also serves to seal the item.

No illnesses have been reported to date.

This recall was initiated after it was discovered that the product was still available and being sold at a single Price Chopper store located in Schenectady, NY. Management had believed that there was no more of this product in circulation since it had not been produced in more than five months and there was no existing stock of the product in possession of the bakery.

At this point all of this product has been removed from the shelves and is no longer available at retail. Butterfly bakery management indicated the problem with this specific retail label was that walnuts had not been included among the ingredients. Corrective steps to prevent a re-occurrence of this type of situation have been put into place.

Consumers are urged to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Hartz Mountain Corporation is Voluntarily Recalling One Specific Lot of 1.2 oz. Size of Wardley Betta Fish Food Due to Possible Health Risk

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – June 12, 2013 – SECAUCUS, N.J., /PRNewswire/ – The Hartz Mountain Corporation, located in Secaucus, N.J. is voluntarily recalling one specific lot of Wardley Betta Fish Food 1.2 oz. size due to concerns that one or more containers within the lot may have been potentially contaminated with Salmonella. Hartz is fully cooperating with the US Food and Drug Administration in this voluntary recall.

Salmonella is a bacterial organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in people, particularly young children, frail or elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Salmonella can affect animals eating the product and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the product or any surfaces exposed to these products. Some healthy individuals infected with Salmonella may experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe or chronic illness.

The product was shipped nationwide from May 13, 2013 through June 4, 2013. In total, 8,112 1.2-oz. plastic containers of Wardley Betta Fish Food, UPC number 0-43324-01648, isolated to the lot code PP06331 (located on the bottom), which were packaged by Hartz at its Pleasant Plain, Ohio facility from a single production run, were shipped. Routine sample testing conducted by Hartz as part of its quality control procedures detected the presence of Salmonella in the lot specified. Hartz is aggressively investigating the source of the problem.

Although Hartz has not received any reports of illness to date in animals or humans as a result of coming into contact with this product, Hartz is taking immediate steps to remove the product from all retail stores and distribution centers. Fish owners who have purchased this product should check the lot code on their containers. If the code is not visible, or if the container has the following lot code PP06331 imprinted on it, they should immediately discontinue use of the product and discard in the trash.

Julian’s Recipe Issues Voluntary Withdrawal of European Style Pretzel Baguette Boxes at Heb Stores in Texas

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – June 11, 2013 – Julian’s Recipe, LLC., in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is voluntarily withdrawing its European Style Pretzel Baguette packages from HEB Stores in Texas. Certain packages of Pretzel Baguettes may contain Julian’s European Style Multigrain Garlic Baguettes, which are made with soy flour. The affected boxes of European Style Pretzel Baguettes were only shipped to HEB Stores in Texas.

The Pretzel Baguettes come in a white box containing two Baguettes – net weight 11.3 oz (320g). Consumers can identify the affected packages by the UPC Code, Lot Code and Best Before Date, which are located on the bottom right hand corner of the box. The voluntary withdrawal is limited to Pretzel Baguettes bearing the following lot code and best before date only:

The removal was initiated after a consumer discovered Garlic Baguettes in a Pretzel Baguette package. This product is only a safety concern for consumers who are allergic to soy. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. No illnesses have been reported to-date in connection with this problem.

Julian’s Recipe has taken the precautionary measure of contacting the FDA and voluntarily removing the product from HEB Stores.

Alderman Farms Sales Corporation Voluntarily Recalls Organic Cherry Tomatoes Because of Possible Health Risk

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – June 7, 2013 – Alderman Farms Sales Corporation, Boynton Beach, Florida is recalling one pint containers of Certified Organic Cherry Tomatoes because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. 

This recall notice is being issued out of an abundance of caution.

An Alderman Farms’ wholesale customer in Florida purchased 10 cartons containing 12 one-pint containers of the affected cherry tomatoes on 5/22/13. There were no other cherry tomatoes sold from this lot.

The cherry tomatoes are packaged in square-shaped clear plastic clamshell containers labeled as Alderman Farms Organic Cherry Tomato, UPC number 6317195594, with a net weight of one pint and an estimated shelf life of 10 days. The carton lot number affected by the recall is 13269. The clamshell packages are distributed in cartons labeled Alderman Farms. 

No illnesses have been associated with the product.

Alderman Farms became aware of the contamination after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration collected a sample of the cherry tomatoes located at Alderman Farms’ Packing facility located in Boynton Beach, Florida. The sample of lot number 13269 found the cherry tomatoes to be contaminated with Salmonella. Alderman Farms is investigating the source of the contamination. Alderman Farms conducted an independent test on the above mentioned lot and it was found to be negative of Salmonella.
