Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) Incident Management Team #3 (Incident Commander: Chris Cline) has assumed command of the Brimstone Fire, effective 1800 hours on Monday, July 29.

The fire is burning approximately 10 miles northwest of Merlin, OR and is one of 24 lightning-fires on land protected by ODF’s Grants Pass District.

The data in the “Basic Information” section, below, is effective from 2200 hours on Monday, July 29, 2013.

Fuels Involved 10 . Timber (litter and understory). The fire is burning in old growth, rep-rod, logging slash, and mixed hardwood conifer stands.
Fire Behavior Moderate fire behavior with torching and spotting. The fire is difficult to see due to the inversion, but can be heard burning in the canyons.

Planned Actions Identify safe areas to access the fire perimeter, build direct line where applicable. Build indirect line and prepare for burn-out operations where direct line is not feasable.
