The fire department is a full service combination department with 12 career staff, including the chief, an acting battalion chief, three lieutenants, seven career firefighters, 18 
volunteer responders and an administrative assistant.  The department budget for 2013 is $2.15 million.  With mutual aid, the total response area is over 40 square miles, and the total number of responses in 2012 was 1,057.

Under administrative direction of the city administrator, the fire chief manages, directs and supervises the activities of the fire department, including fire prevention, fire suppression, hazardous materials, training, public relations, administration, emergency medical services, and other emergency management related programs.  

An associate degree in fire science and six years of firefighter experience is required; a bachelor’s degree in fire science or related field is desired.  Ability to maintain a valid Washington State EMT.
