Homicide Investigation

The Puyallup Police Department is investigating the shooting death of a 13 year old male.

As of the time of this release, no additional suspects are
being sought.

On February 6, 2014 at 3:04 pm the Puyallup Police Department and Central Pierce Fire and Rescue were dispatched to a shooting in the 500 block of 11th Street Southeast.

Upon the arrival of the officers, they located the juvenile male victim inside a residence in the 500 block of 11th Street Southeast. The victim appeared to be suffering from a life threating gunshot wound to the chest. A second juvenile male was on the scene rendering aid to the victim.

The victim was transported to Tacoma General Hospital by Central Pierce Fire and Rescue personnel.

The initial investigation revealed that there were four juvenile males inside the residence at the time of the shooting. The juvenile males were hanging around in the residence after school without adult supervision. While inside the residence, the juvenile whose home that they were in pulled out a shotgun and displayed it to the other juvenile males. A second juvenile grabbed the gun away from the juvenile. A few moments later a third juvenile, the 13 year old decedent, was shot and killed by the juvenile male in possession of the firearm.

As of the time of this notification all of the juvenile males are accounted for and are currently being interviewed by detectives from the Puyallup Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit.

The Puyallup Police Department’s Major Unit is investigating the incident as an unintentional shooting.
