Published August 21, 2022 – Sunday Fire Update

The RUM CREEK FIRE is located 12 miles northwest of Hugo (Josephine County), Oregon, in the Medford District on BLM lands and northwest of Grants Pass, Oregon, which ignited from an unknown cause on Wednesday, August 17, 2022.

It is under the management of the NW Team 13, a Type 2 IMT, coordinating and supervising a total of 250 fire personnel and seven crews.

About 41 acres of timber, tall grass, and brush have been burned.

This incident has a 1% containment status.

Fire behavior has been observed as moderate with backing, short crown runs, and torching.

One death has been reported. A wildland firefighter, Logan Taylor, 25 was killed in action, from a fallen tree on August 18, 2022. He is the 2nd wildland firefighter killed this month.
