UPDATE 1: Friday, September 30, 2022, 2130 PT
The McAllister Creek Fire is located six miles southeast of Newhalem in the North Cascades National Park.
It was sparked by lightning during the week of September 12th and is now more active as it continues to burn in a very remote area with steep terrain in the area of Thunder Creek drainage.
As of October 3rd, the Forest made these announcements:
CLOSED
– Cascade Crest – both sides
– A portion of Thunder Creek Trail between Neve and Junction camps
OPEN
– Big and Little Beaver trails
The size of the fire is unknown as fire resources have not been able to enter the area due to heavy smoke and unsafe flying conditions. Fire Officials expect the fire behavior to continue to be moderate from now until next week as temps warm up and become drier.
Estimated of CTD: $10,000.
