CENTRAL WASHINGTON — A wildfire broke out on Monday, June 12th just after earlier this in the day, prompt fire and law enforcement resources and equipment to be dispatched to the area where the touristy location, the Wild Horse Monument is located just off of I-90 and exit 139.
The Monument, a popular point-of-view at the top of a mountainside, has panoramic views of the valley and waterway below. It was closed as it was being used to support as temporary helicopter base operations.
The fire burned approximately 50 acres, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office but the WA DNR’s wildcad.net system is showing 75 acres.
Central WA (State) resources were dispatched at 1253 hours PDT this afternoon.
The fire was reported at one time said to be moving away from the rural freeway. No structures were threatened by the wildfire, therefore, no evacuations were reportedly ordered.

- Grant County Fire District 3
- Washington State Patrol
- WSDOT Eastern Region HQ
- Bureau of Land Management
- Grant County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management
- Department of Natural Resources (WA DNR)
There were no reports of personnel or civilians reportedly injured.
No cause has been released regarding this incident and may still appear to be under investigation.
