UPDATE 1: Wednesday, July 14, 2023, 2145 PDT
THE DALLES, OREGON — A wildfire broke out about an unknown exact time but appears to have been either before or after 1700 hours PDT this evening. The fire is located near milepost 87 on I-84, which is threatening structures and prompting local evacuation orders for:
Level 3 (GO NOW): East of Veterans Drive from Summit Drive to Eightmile Road and Viewpoint Road (per Sheriff’s Office) and another fire news channel reported it was evacuated.
Level 2 (GET READY): East Eightmile Road to Company Hollow Road.
Shelter-in-Place (STAY WHERE YOU ARE): The Oregon Veteran’s Home (Structure protection is in place)

The fire is approximately 200 acres in size, burning east and towards crop fields. It is a wind-driven fire with a high rate of spread.
WA DNR resources have been dispatched to the fire line as of 1713, which include E-9462, E-644, Bat 2-1, E-9465, SA Div 1, E-602, Fuels 1, E-601, and 9402.
Local resources include Dallesport, Lyle, Wishram, Mid Columbia Fire, Dufur, Hood River, OR Department of Forestry (ODF), and the National Forest Service Columbia Gorge Scenic Area.
The Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office (State resources) has dispatched two scooper planes. We have reached out to the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office (Fire PIO) for an update on resources, the size of the fire, etc.) since their last update was over two hours ago.-Ed.
A RED FLAG WARNING has been in place since Tuesday, June 13, 2023, from 1100 to 2100 hours. Here is the information as released by the Lyle Fire & Rescue District # agency:
“There is a Red Flag Warning in effect Tuesday from 11am to 9pm. There will be 20 to 35 mph winds with gusts up to 50 mph. Relative humidity will be as low as 20 to 25%. Please be very careful with your activities on Wednesday. Make sure fire safety is a priority with these high winds. If fires do develop they will likely spread rapidly.“
