The Sourdough Fire is burning in the North Cascades National Park (NPS) and is located six miles NE of Newhalme, Washington. The fire was sparked by lightning on July 29, 2023. It is under the leadership of the NW Team 8, a Type 2 IMT with the lead Fire Agency as the USDI National Park Service. Fire behavior has been observed as moderate with isolated torching, creeping, and flanking. The community of Diablo and energy infrastructure are still being threatened. Closures are in effect. A total of 6,138 acres have been burned and there is a 25% containment status reached. The expected date this fire is due to be fully contained is on October 1, 2023. There are 212 total personnel along with one crew, eight engines, and five helicopters.

**State Route 20 (SR 20) is open to through-travel only (no stopping or pulling over). Area, trail, and camp closures remain

in effect between mile 120 (Newhalem) and 139 (east NPS boundary), as well as other areas along SR 20 due to the Blue

Lake Fire. Diablo Lake, Diablo Lake Overlook, Maple Pass, and other areas are not accessible.

State Patrol is citing drivers for stopping and/or for any traffic infractions. DON’T BE THAT guy because we would imagine these tickets are not cheap. This is a fire area and please remember to yield to an emergency, transportation, and all other related vehicles.
