As of March 28, 2012, the Office of Defects Investigations opened a case as a result of two (2) complaints filed in March 2012.  The two complaints were focused on engine compartment fires occurring in the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze by General Motors LLC.  It alleges engulfing fires resulted in complete vehicle loss both times.

On the same day, the ODI opened a second defects investigations case for the 2010 Jeep Wrangler manufactured by Chrysler Group LLC, from eight (8) vehicles owners with seven (7) of them reporting fire or symptoms of the impending fire while driving.  A preliminary evaluation has been opened to assess the scope, frequency and safety-related consequences of the alleged defect.  ODI #s can be viewed (see the above site to review info at)  #10358879, 10441570, 10371836, 10421483, 10423198, 10427833, 10429042 AND 10451570.
