An early fire erupted on the commercial luxury charter boat named the Safari Spirit around 0100 hours this morning.  The 105-foot Alaskan ship was moored at Fishermen’s Terminal in Seattle suffered a $1.5 million dollar loss.  The boat is reported has 12 large luxury rooms with whirlpool tubs.

The Captain and a crew member escaped the ship with their lives after the boat began to catch on fire.  When fire crews arrived, the boat was completely engulfed in flames. 

At 0100 hours, Seattle Fire dispatched the following units:  Aid 14, Batallion 7, Engines 1, 20, 36, 5 and Ladder 7.  Marine Van, Patrol 4 and Rescue 80.

Approximately 0102 hours, additional units to the “full response” were Aid2, Air 9, Battalions 4 and 6, Deputy 1, Engines 18, 41, 8, 9 and Ladders 6 and 8.  Medic Unit 18, Safety 2 and Staff 10.

Later at 0109 hours, Engine 6 and Ladder 3 were added with Medic 28 dispatched at 0126 hours. 

Around 0830 hours, firefighters were still fighting the flames on the boat calling in additional resources to do a fire watch throughout the day.  Hot spots were still being mopped up.  It was too hot for fire investigators to gain access to the boat.

At 0131 hours, Seattle Fire PIO Kyle Moore was deployed to the fire scene.

Battalion 7 at 0134 hours and Marshal 5 at 0709 hours.

Engine 20 0758 hours and at 1230 hours Engine 18.  1450 hours, Engine 8 was called out to the ship fire and Engine 9 responded at 1748 hours.  Finally, Engine 81 is now on scene after being dispatched at 1935 hours.

The cause is still unknown.

Seattle Fire Buffs/REHAB Support Units responded to help with REHABbing Fire crews while they were working extrememly hard.  Support 4, Lee Kane and Support 5, Eric Swenson were on scene.
