Firefighters made quick work of a blaze on Blackmarsh Road this morning. Just before four o’clock, the St. John’s Regional Fire Department received several calls that smoke was showing from a building that’s still under construction. Deputy Fire Chief Jerry Peach says the fire was contained to the front of the structure. Peach says the multi-unit dwelling is still standing. There is no word yet from police on the cause of the fire.

Meantime, firefighters were kept busy over the past 24 hours with a reported electrical fire on Gullage Street yesterday afternoon. Peach says there was smoke showing so they cleared the building, but there were no flames and the incident was under control within a short time. Another handful of emergency calls included the response to a bonfire, but nothing else of a serious nature.
