August 1, 2012, Elliot Lake, Ont. – Ontario Provincial Police have finished examining the rubble of a northern Ontario shopping centre that partially collapsed in June, killing two people.

Police say they’ve turned over control of the Algo Centre Mall in Elliot Lake to the Ministry of Labour.

Once the ministry wraps up its investigation, responsibility for the site will revert to the owner’s insurance provider.

Police say that’s who residents should contact about retrieving any belongings stuck inside the building since the June 23 collapse.

Two women – Lucie Aylwin, 37, and Doloris Perizzolo, 74 – were killed when part of the roof came crashing down that day.

Provincial police have since launched a criminal probe into the incident, while the province plans a public inquiry.
