Radiological Emergency Planning: Terrorism, Security, and Communication

Event Date(s): Monday, August 20, 2012 to Friday, August 24, 2012
Location: Boston, MA

The 2012 Public Health Emergency Medical Countermeasures Enterprise (PHEMCE) Strategy outlines the strategic direction for federal efforts to protect the nation from national health security threats through medical countermeasures. It establishes four strategic goals, including:

…• Goal 1: Create, develop, manufacture, and procure critical medical countermeasures.
• Goal 2: Establish and communicate clear pathways to facilitate medical countermeasure development and use.
• Goal 3: Develop logistics and operational plans for optimized use of medical countermeasures at all levels of response.
• Goal 4: Address medical countermeasure gaps for all sectors of the American population.

Participants will review the latest principles and requirements needed both to prepare for and respond to a radiological emergency and to develop the skills needed to effectively communicate with the media and public during crisis situations. This continuing professional education program is being hosted by the Harvard School of Public Health.

This summer, the companion 2012 PHEMCE Implementation Plan will be released, which provides the blueprint that the PHEMCE will follow. To view the 2012 PHEMCE Strategy, please visit www.phe.gov/phemce/strategy.
