Today marks the 18th Year Anniversary of four Seattle Heroes, Lt. Walter Kilgore & Lt. Gre Shoemaker and Firefighters Randy Terlicker and James Brown were killed in the Line-of-Duty fighting a 4-alarm blaze on January 5, 1995.
The intense fire inferno at the old Mary Pang Frozen Chinese Food warehouse was the subject of an arson threat later carried out by the owner’s son, Martin Pang. He was later arrested but the extent of the damage done the structure was beyond repair. Though he has been serving many years in prison, the hearts and lives destroyed by this man will never stop us from living day-to-day.
“Firefighters will continue to prevail as they always have, no matter what the task or the greatest of challenges that may stand in their way.” ~ Lisa Swenson
A Memorial Service this evening will be a time filled with stories surrounding the event, those who fought so hard to protect the doomed structure and how everyone worked tirelessly to save each other. It will be a rememberance to those who died in the Line-of-Duty and the sacrifices they made to the fire service, to their fellow firefighters, their loved ones and the many who have supported them along the way.
On behalf of The NW Fire Blog, we thank you all for your continued commitment to the fire service, dedication to the Communities you serve and most importantly, never forgetting those that have passed before you, those in today’s time and those who will pass in the future.
We offer our deepest sympathies to those that were involved or indirectly impacted by this incident, to their loved ones – we are so sorry for your loss and offer support to those who need us. We will always be here to lean on.
WE WILL NEVER FORGET OUR HEROES, Remembering Their Legacies Forever.
