BEAVERTON, Ore. – Firefighters with Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue said they rescued five people Friday afternoon from a fire at an apartment complex.
According to TVF&R, one of those people was a woman who was trapped by smoke in her third-floor apartment at Southwest Farmington Road and 139th Avenue.
Firefighters said the woman called 911 at about 3:40 p.m. as her apartment filled with smoke. While still on the line, she opened a window to let in fresh air. Firefighters couldn’t get to her through the apartment because of the smoke and flames, so they used a ladder to reach her third-floor unit.
Firefighters also used a ladder to rescue four more people trapped on the third floor. Everyone else got out of the apartment complex.
Firefighters also saved two dogs and several reptiles.
The five people who were rescued were treated at the scene.
