The City of Redmond is recruiting and hiring for Fire Fighter. The department currently has 3 vacancies and is building an eligibility list for these positions and future openings. This position requires FireTEAM and a valid NTN CPAT.
The closing date has been set for September 20, 2014. All testing must be scheduled and completed by that date.
The City of Redmond requires the candidate PHQ. You can access the questionnaire through your candidate account. NTN suggest completing the PHQ as soon as possible to not cause any delays in consideration by the department.
The City of Redmond will NOT accept CPAT results from other agencies. You MUST have a current CPAT from National Testing Network to be considered for employment.
Salary Information:
$5,079 to $6,952 per month (2012 rates)

Department Information:
The City of Redmond Fire Department has 157 dedicated employees providing fire and life safety services to the City of Redmond and Fire District 34. The Department operates on a 48/96 schedule (two days on and four days off) performing: Fire Suppression, Inspections, Fire safety education, rescue, paramedic services, and emergency medical response and transportation to area hospitals. All Fire Fighters are trained as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) or as Paramedics.

City Information:
The City of Redmond is located just 15 minutes east of Seattle. The Redmond Fire Department provides emergency response services throughout the City of Redmond and to King County Fire District 34. Service is provided to approximately 55,000 City residents and 20,000 District residents. The daytime population is greater than 110,000 people due to employee populations at successful companies like Microsoft and Nintendo. Selection Process:
- Application:
The City of Redmond tests for Fire Fighter on an ongoing basis and establishes eligibility lists as needed. Applicants test in accordance with schedules established by National Testing Network; those who meet the above criteria will be considered by the City of Redmond for additional testing.
- Written and Physical Ability Test: Applicants must pass the CPAT and achieve 70 percent or higher on FireTEAM to qualify for employment. (Weighted 40 percent)
The City of Redmond will NOT accept CPAT results from other agencies. You MUST have a current CPAT from National Testing Network to be considered for employment.
- Interview: The top 50 applicants from this list will be contacted for further testing; consisting of an interview with a passing score of 70%. (Weighted 60 percent).
- Special Qualifications: Firefighters operate motor vehicles and will be required to present a valid driver’s license with any necessary endorsements. Driving records of applicants will be checked. Applicants will be disqualified under the following circumstances.
- Eligibility List: Applicants who pass the CPAT, and who receive a qualifying score on the FireTEAM and interview, will be placed on a civil service eligibility list certified for six months. Candidates being considered for hire must successfully pass an interview with the Chief, a background check, medical examination and psychological evaluation.
- Violations: More than two moving traffic violations within the preceding three years; or reckless driving violation within the preceding five years; or driving while intoxicated within the preceding five years.
- Accidents: More than one motor vehicle accident within the preceding three years for which the applicant received a traffic or criminal citation and was convicted, forfeited bail, or entered a plea of “guilty” or “nolo contendre.”
- Veteran’s Preference: Applicants requesting Veteran’s Preference Points will be required to present a DD-214 at the time of interview.
