Mercer Island, WA | Longtime MIFD Deputy Fire Chief Steve Heitman accepted the Fire Chief position on September 19, 2014, as announced by City Manager Noel Treat. This was due to the exit of outgoing MIFD Fire Chief Chris Tubbs, who resigned to pursue another career in California.
We visited with then Fire Chief Tubbs in 2012, and was quite impressed with the operations within the Department and its Firefighters. We also received a firehouse tour and photos of the many resources available within their Department.
Some things have since changed since then and now a new Fire Chief is taking the helm.
DC Heitman has been with the MIFD since 2001 and DC since 2008. He has a quite an array of qualifications and experience such as : Operations, Community Risk Reductions, Logistics, Support and Training.
“An Internal review of his qualifications left us with no doubt that Heitman will be the right fight for the job”
We would like to say “Congratulations” to Mercer Island’s new Fire Chief Steve Heitman and wish former Fire Chief Chris Tubbs “Good Luck” in your new job in California. You will surely be missed.
