Near Elkton, Washington
A brush fire approximately the size of 20 acres (listed @ 1900 hours) is located on both sides of Hwy 138 West at Mile post 6 that is being fought by Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) fire crews.
The fire behavior is spreading fast.
Tankers were dropping water over the fire around 1900 hours and heading back to their helibase in Salem in Grant County, Oregon.
One of the helicopters on-scene is help to drop retardant which has made progress on the head of the fire. Air Attack is taking the second copter to the other side of the fire.
Fire crews are pouring into the area to assist with the fighting of this fire. No word on what or who is being dispatched at this point but we are working on gleaning that information.
Highway 138 W is currently shut down in both directions.
We are calling this fire #Hwy138WestFire. We have heard the repeat name over 138 Incident and 138 West incident.
