Firefighters have successfully stopped the forward movement of the QUAIL FIRE, a second alarm brush fire that broke out this evening in the area of North 5 Freeway and Lake Hughes Road near Tapia and in Castaic (Los Angels County), California.
The fire was reported by the Sheriff’s Office as fully contained at 1923 hours this evening.
The fire burned about 50 acres and prompted the immediate structure protection of the LA County Animal Shelter which was said to be burning about 250 yards away from the path of the fire.
The animal shelter has been saved, along with all of its residents. No firefighters, civilians, or any animals were reported as injured from this wildfire incident.
There was no need to evacuate the shelter, says the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Office.
Incident Cooperators included: LA County FD, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Office, LA County FD PIO, and the LA County Animal Shelter.
Fire aviation assets included: T72, COPTER15, COPTER22, FIRE5, HT55, AA112, T73, TNKR107, COULSON322, COPTER76, and OES Intel 24.
Heavy Equipment included: DOZER.
There was no preliminary cause known at the time of this update.
There is also an unknown amount of property damages and cost-to-date for fire suppression and containment efforts.
