The Douglas County Fire District #2’s Task Force 15 deployed this morning from their District to the wildfire burning outside of Merlin, Oregon.

Crews from Riddle FD, NDCFEMS, and Sutherlin FD, as well, as DCFD2.

The RUM CREEK FIRE is located 25 miles NW of Hugo and 5 miles NW of Galice, Oregon in the Medford District on BLM lands. It is being managed by a Type 2 IMT, by the NW Team 13.

The fire was caused by lightning, which started on August 17, 2022, around 1200 (noon) PT.

Active fire behavior was observed with running, crowning, and group torching, which is still threatening structures. The fire is being pushed southward. Structure protection is in effect for areas between Rand and Galice. An air recon will / has occurred this morning.

Closures are in effect.

4,319 total acres consumed. 0% containment status.

There is 639 total personnel along with 21 crews, 13 engines, and 4 copters.

Expected containment has been scheduled for 10/31/2022.

CTD: $5.3 Million.
