Published October 9, 2022, 1550 hours PT

MOUNT VERNON, WASHINGTON — Firefighters from the Big Lake Fire Department / Skagit County Fire District 9 along with surrounding areas were dispatched to a brush fire the size of 200′ x 100′ burning near Lake Cavanaugh Road.

The fire is burning in the the19600 block of SR 9, in the area of Lake Cavanaugh Road and SR 9.

Due to a torch being used earlier in the day, it has created a lot of hot spots, according to scanner feed.

The fire started from an unknown ignition.

No structures are under threat, nor are there any evacuation orders in effect.

However, SR 9 at Lake Cavanaugh Road is currently closed.

Several water tenders and brush trucks are currently on the scene assisting with ground fire resources.

No aviation assets have been dispatched at this time.

Update | 1540 PT | Lake Cavanaugh firefighters were dispatched to the brush fire for additional manpower.
