June 8, 2023 – Stage 1 Burn Ban in Effect

Due to current and forecasted dry weather conditions, the Snohomish County Fire Marshal announced a Stage 1 outdoor burning ban for the unincorporated areas of Snohomish County effective Friday, June 9th at 8:00 a.m. This is a Stage 1 burn ban to suspend all residential burning, even if a permit has been issued.

This restriction bans outdoor residential burning, except for recreational and cooking fires.

Recreational fires are less than three feet in diameter and two feet high and are intended for cooking or pleasure within an approved fire pit. Burning material shall be kept below the top of the enclosure.

– Recreational fires shall not be conducted within 25 feet of a structure or combustible materials. Conditions that could cause a fire to spread within 25 feet of a structure shall be eliminated prior to ignition. Recreational fires shall be monitored at all times and must have a water source readily available; at a minimum, a charged water hose or a five‐gallon bucket of water.

– Portable outdoor fireplaces shall be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and shall not be operated within 15 feet of a structure or combustible material. For the duration of this burn ban, all outdoor burn permits are suspended.

This ban will remain in effect until there has been a sustained period of rainfall and the fire risk returns to low.

June 7, 2023 – Brush Fire and Car Fire on the same day, Monroe

Probationary Firefighter Rasmussen has been put to work as soon as she got on the line! A brush fire in Monroe earlier in the week and a truck fire today near High Bridge outside of Monroe. She is supported by seasoned firefighters out of Station 31!

We are thankful this truck fire did not expand into a larger wildland fire. Most vehicle fires contain magnesium engine blocks and parts that make fighting fire more tricky. When it starts burning, it drips fire. Add water and it becomes even more volatile.

June 3, 2023 – Swift Water Rescue Call – Mutual Aid – Canyon Creek, Granite Falls

On June 3rd at 1736 hours PDT, SRFR personnel and equipment were dispatched as mutual aid for a Swift Water Rescue to an adult male who fell in Canyon Creek at Granite Falls and had suffered a head injury.

An update to the call revealed the male patient was still in the water on the other side of the river from where he fell in.

This location was reported as the 19700 block of Canyon Drive in Granite Falls.

Units who responded were SRFR Medic 81. Snohomish County Fire District #22 (Getchell Fire), Snohomish County Fire District 21, and Snohomish County Fire District 19 Hover Craft 94 also assisted with mutual aid. Oso Fire Department stepped up and assisted with recovery as well!

. The victim was transported to Everett Providence Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

This high-angle rescue was successful because eight departments and districts collaboratively train regularly and use common tactics and communication.

June 2, 2023 – 14300 Block of 28th Street NE, Lake Stevens

At 0749 hours PDT, SRF&R firefighters, and equipment were dispatched to a trailer on fire surrounded by dense trees. First-due units reported a partially permanent travel trailer ablaze and unoccupied. Tender trucks were deployed due to no fire hydrants in the area. Firefighters were on the scene for approximately 1.5 hours.
