City of Redmond
The City of Redmond is located about 15 miles east of Seattle in King County, Washington. It is currently the eighteenth largest municipality in the State which boasts a population of more than 333,000 (Fire Department’s numbers) residents, with hundreds of businesses, restaurants, school districts, parks, and trail systems. It is also home to large businesses such as Microsoft and Nintendo of America. The city is approximately 17.24 square miles with less than one mile made up of water and the rest remaining land-based.
About the Redmond Fire Department
The City of Redmond Fire Department (Redmond IAFF Local 2829) was formed in 1946 and provides EMS, fire suppression, rescue (and heavy rescue), and HAZMAT responses to the residents, businesses, and visitors in the City and to those located in King County’s Fire District 34 which is in the unincorporated area, a 45-square mile service area.
Headquarters are located in Fire Station 11, at 8450 161st Avenue NE, Redmond, which is also home to their Fire Prevention Office ( https://www.redmond.gov/302/Fire-Prevention-Division ).
The RFD is under the management of Fire Chief Adrian Sheppard, two Deputy Chiefs, four Battalion Chiefs, one Fire Marshal, and one Medical Services Administrator and Emergency Manager, Lisa Figueroa.
Their rank and file of men and women inside the RFD is made up of 163 uniformed personnel, and 10 non-uniformed personnel. Their EMS program consists of one Medical Services Officer unit which is staffed by 30 Harborview trained / King County Medic One Paramedics.

Mobile Integrated Health Team Honored as Fire/EMS Agency of the Year

The City of Redmond’s Mobile Integrated Health team (for the NW Regional Crisis Intervention Team) is the CIT Fire/EMS Agency of the Year in Seaside, Oregon, and has a service area overall in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.

Cities Collaborate During Mock “MCI” Due to CO Poisoning Incident
Many agencies in the King County region tend to train together, so when we heard they were working on an MCI “mock” incident, we felt compelled to share their story here on our Fire Blog.
Cities: Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland, Mercer Island, AMR, Tri-Med along with the American Red Cross, PHRC-King, and NEMCO CERT. We were lucky enough to photograph a similar scene in Shoreline many years ago. – Ed.
