On October 5, 2023, Seattle Firefighter Aaron McCandless was named, 2023 Seattle Firefighter of the Year by the Seattle Fire Department during their October Annual Seattle Fire Award Ceremony.

Stories were shared by those of his sacrifices, selfless actions, and bravery during the evening.

His family could not be more proud of him, according to their Social Media posts.

We were not in attendance but we did find other life-saving measures he took while not on the job.

One such story occurred when he rendered aid to an injured WSP Trooper on December 26, 2017.

Firefighter McCandless who was off duty at the time, rushed over to the injured State Trooper who had suffered injuries from an MVA crash near him on I-90.

He was awarded the Certification of Appreciation by the Washington State Patrol for rendering aid to the Trooper.
