ATHENS, ALABAMA

Several structures, locations, aircraft, and other buildings were impacted by an EF-1 tornado, that was said to be peaking at 100 mph on December 28, 2024, between 2315 and 2320 hours ET. Per the City of Athens, the National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed the path of the tornado was about 3.87 miles with a max path width of 160 yards.

Athens Government: About 1,548 were without power and about 10 poles needed to be replaced.

Athens Utilities: The utilities crews are busy repairing poles and lines. Do not call 911 to report power outages, but instead call 256-777-2121 for utility issues.

Pepsi Bottling Company of Decatur: They delivered water and Gatorade for workers and downtown merchants.

Slim Chickens: Providing meals to recovery workers.
