October 16—A Seattle Fire Investigator determined a fire at a University District restaurant was accidental, caused by overheated electrical wiring in the kitchen.
At 2:45 a.m. the Fire Alarm Center received a 911 call reporting grey smoke coming from the alley between 50th and 52nd Street. University District Engine Company 17 arrived to find coming from the roof of a strip mall restaurant located in 5000 block of University Way NE.
Firefighters made forcible entry into the locked business and discovered a small kitchen fire. It took 10 minutes for crews to completely extinguish the flames. Due to a common attic space, several other businesses suffered smoke damage.
Fire Investigators estimate damage at $10,000 to the structure and $20,000 to the contents. There were no injuries.
