400-acre Brush Creek Fire is burning about 10 miles north of Rifle, Colo. on BLM land. No structures are currently threatened.

Three 20-person hand crews, one 30-person crew, four helicopters, four single-engine air-tankers, nine engines and a type 3 incident management team are working the fire today. Additional hand crews have been ordered.

Crews are working to keep the fire from growing and are strengthening fire lines.

It is believed to be a holdover fire from an earlier lightning storm.

Rifle Gap remains partially closed to boating due to the helicopter activity.

Fire activity is expected to increase throughout the day as the temperatures warm, humidity drops, and winds increase. Winds are forecast to 15 mph from the SW, highs in the upper 80s.
