Located just two miles West of Oakridge, OR, firefighters have been fighting multiple fires since August 11, 2014, when several lightning storms passed over. The Deception Complex Fire made up many fires:

- Deception Creek – 6,033 acres burned.
- Staley – 262 acres burned.
- Davey – 36 acres burned.
- Pool Creek – 22 acres burned.
- Spirit Ridge – 17 acres burned.
- Edith – 4 acres burned.
Though Firefighters have fiercely fought these fires containing them now to 95-percent, it hasn’t been without sweat and tears.
Recently, fire crews have been focusing on primary fire activities, such as: chipping, road repair, water-barring of fire lines and continous mop-up of any smoke near the perimeter.
Tomorrow, Firefighters will host a Community Meeting at the Oakridge High School in the Cafeteria beginning at 1830 hours. It is slated to be the last and final Community Meeting wrapping up the disastrous fire event. Food and drinks will be provided, as well as door prizes. Firefighters will be available after the meeting for some Q & A.
We personally know how many of you fought this wildfire and thank you for your dedication. We also have heard from many residents how much you are appreciated. Great job, Firefighters and all those directly involved with the Deception Complex Fire event.

Traffic jam at Deception Complex Fire. Great to see lots of fire crews coming in and out.
This is what it looks like after all the firefighters have left and you get hundreds of feet of tangled up fire hoses. Better to have more than not enough, don’t you agree?
Tatanka Hotshots are focused on in this awesome image. Photographer catches the ambience of the fire.
