FIRE INCIDENT SUMMARY
A wildfire reportedly broke out between north of Highway 260 in the Phoenix Park Wash area about 1.5 miles south of Highway 277. It burned land in the Navajo County on the Black Mesa Ranger District on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests in Arizona State.
CAUSE
The fire started on Sunday, March 6, 2016, around noon, was deemed to be the result of a target practice, says the Sheriff’s Office. No persons-of-interest or suspects have been named and appears the fire incident is still under investigation.
DAMAGE ASSESSMENT
The fire quickly spread to grass, brush and into timber, scorching 592 acres. As the winds increased, so did the fire activity causing difficulties for firefighters on the fire ground.
CONTAINMENT
On March 7th, the second day of the fire – there 60 firefighters assigned to the incident from the Forest Service; Local and State Fire agencies. With the aid of equipment and support, there were 2 hand crews, 4 engines, a water tender and one dozer.
The fire was contained 100% on March 11, 2016.
FUTURE ACTIVITY
Three personnel remain assigned to this incident. They are in a monitoring status. There is no expectation of any fire spread.
