INCIDENT SUMMARY
A wildfire broke out in the Paint Creek area in Green County, Tennessee along the Highway 70 area near the North Carolina State line – about 12 miles SE of Greenville. It started on March 30th around 2030 hours. The fire is located in the Unaka Ranger District on the Cherokee National Forest.
The cause has been investigated and deemed to be human-caused. Due to the upcoming hunting season, Fire Officials like to remind those to watch your campfires and make sure they are completely extinguished prior to leaving the area.
RESOURCES
The fire is being managed by a combined Command team of the U.S.F.S., Tennessee Dept. of Forestry, Greene County Emergency Management and the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency. Some fire suppression resources are from out-of-area.
There are still 60 personnel assigned to this incident with the support of 1 helicopter and 1 dozer.
DAMAGE ASSESSMENT
Firefighters have successfully gained a 100% containment status.
90 acres were burned.
WEATHER FORECAST
There was .25 ” of rain that fell upon the fire ground at one point but the weather is now predicting a drying trend over the next few days.
