A wildfire is burning about three miles southeast of Midland and south of Klamath Falls, Oregon that was reported today at 0900 hours PDT.

Incident Cooperators are:

  • OR DOF Klamath – Lake District (Lead)
  • BLM- Lakeview District
  • Fremont – Winema NF
  • US Fish & Wildlife Refuge
  • Klamath County FD1
  • Klamatch County Sheriff Office
  • OR State Patrol
  • Kingsley Field Fire
  • Merill PD

The fire has burned increased in size since its initial detection to 75 acres.  Crews have obtained a 20% containment status.

Fire activities included burnout operations on the southern flank this afternoon in rocky terrain to help strengthen and hold containment lines.   Scheduled night operations will occur.

Resources include the following:

  • 11 engines
  • 2 hand crews
  • 2 water tenders
  • 1 dozer
  • 1 heavy air tanker
  • 2 SEATs
  • 2 helicopters

The cause of the wildfire is unknown and under investigation.

There have been some additional fire starts in the area along Tingley Lane but were quickly put out.  It is unknown if they are related or not.

Lower Klamath Lake Road continues to be closed for fire suppression traffic and personnel. No other roads or trails are closed in the area.
