755 Fire in TX Almost Contained | 1

BROOKS COUNTY, TX – The 755 FIRE is located off of County Rd 755 near Encino in Brooks County, Texas is approximately 2,000 acres and has a 90% containment status. The fire started on the afternoon of February 16, 2022.

The fire was caused by a roadside ignition which spread quickly with high wind speeds and dry vegetation.

Local fire departments along with State resources from Texas A&M Forest Service responded initially and have been coordinating throughout the incident.

The IC is Ricky Holbrook, TAMFS.

According to fire sources, fire behavior was erratic and spreading through fuels of grass and thick brush. About 50 structures were threatened but saved by tirelessly fire suppression and structure protection efforts.  

Aviation assisted ground crews with a Large Air Tanker (LAT) making two retardant drops and an Air Attack (AA) providing aerial surveillance. Heavy equipment from Texas A&M Forest Service, Brooks County, and private entities were also utilized to secure a perimeter.

A voluntary evacuation was placed for residences along County Road 304 but has since been lifted.

The fire is said to be no longer active and the incident will be turned over to local jurisdiction tonight for monitoring.
